Principles

The ideas that guide every decision in starkOS's design.

  1. 01

    Minimalism

The system includes only the essentials. Every package, service, or process that runs by default has to justify its presence.

  2. 02

    systemd-free

A system free of systemd and elogind; SysV + RC, Runit, or s6 init are preferred, along with ConsoleKit2/seatd as a replacement.

  3. 03

    Simplicity (KISS)

The system works better when kept simple rather than made needlessly complex; simplicity should therefore be a primary design goal.

  4. 04

    User control

A KISS-style, source-based distribution aimed at experienced users who prefer full control over their system.

  5. 05

    Source-based ports managed by starkpm

All ports are managed through starkpm, starkOS's port manager, with no alternative options such as flatpak or similar.
